Many companies are expanding the roles of their IBM Power i (AS400) servers within their business systems. As information technology advances, it becomes increasingly important to integrate successful legacy systems with the new Java based technology. First Option understands the significance and impact legacy data and applications can have on a business’ daily operations. A legacy system may very well serve critical business functions, be a source of vital information or be a company’s primary product for resale. In some cases, the systems are acting as large database servers to web-based applications.

Although typically inherited from prior platforms, different languages (e.g., RPG, RPG II, OCL) or older technology, legacy systems must be integrated into new technology while continuing to run on the platforms they were developed for. The challenge is to maintain the security of the data, the integrity of the data and the functionality of the application as part of the migration to a web based server or browser based application.
